The initiative does not eliminate tips, but will likely cause many restaurants to adjust business models. &#8220;Error&#8221;  because it probably not the best way, but does offer some wage security.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative hopefully will begin to force residents, business owners, policy makers to address our current comfort with unfair economic and real estate development and bring some balance to policies built around privilege, gentrification and displacement.<\/p>\n<p>While I&#8217;ve heard some valid and solid arguments against the initiative, my logic process and &#8220;spidey sense&#8221; tells me, this is about those who want to benefit from and enjoy the privileges of neighborhood &#8220;gentrification&#8221;and income from flipping real estate, but don&#8217;t want to pay a fair price.   In other words willing to place the potential plight of favorite bar, personal social status over neighborhood equity and justice. Forgive me, but this is a New Ward 1 that&#8217;s taking me time to get used to. No matter what politicians and candidates tell you during election time, you can&#8217;t have your cake and eat it to.<\/p>\n<p>The speculatively driven costs of land and housing fueled in large part by government subsidy and escalating tax burdens is squeezing business owners and low and moderate income consumers and workers.  This not fairer wages is the problem. If fairer wages hurts our bar scene, then that as it should be.
