Many programs start with, well, finding them housing, so I was skeptical when I heard about Clean Slate, an effort in Fort Worth, Texas, that prioritizes giving jobs to homeless people before finding them permanent housing. But Kristy Yates changed my mind. A former guest at the Presbyterian Night Shelter, Yates went through its Clean Slate program. Not only has she now moved into her own home, but she supports herself through a full-time job at the shelter.
