In fact, when the Zoning Commission was asked to fulfill the city\u2019s &#39;right-of-return&#39; commitment for\u00a0those displaced from Barry Farm, the Commission said that&#39;s &#39;outside our authority.&#39;\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">This \u201cshallow language comes from the Mayor,&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">Norouzi told Coalition participants.<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">\u201cWe have to push back from every angle&#8230;<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">OP can demand more, but will they?&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">The amended Comprehensive Plan calls for a &#8220;racial equity lens&#8221; to be applied by many agencies, especially in the city&#39;s planning and zoning functions. However, so far &#8220;nothing&#39;s changed.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><b><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">The session also mapped a\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">strategy to develop a core of community defenders &#8211; a team of volunteers to track OP and zoning development projects as they arise,\u00a0<b>using the zoning calendar and DC Register,<\/b>\u00a0so timely demands can be made from the neighborhoods throughout the city.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">As transportation is an element in the Comp Plan, Nick DelleDonne, president of Dupont East Civic Action Association and a member of the steering committee, announced the formation of a city-wide <b>Coalition on DDOT Bike Plans<\/b> to help neighborhoods push back. While providing a measure of safety for cyclists, protected bike lanes encourage speeding and present a hazard to seniors, toddlers, the disabled, and the rest of us, particularly when DDOT is pushing them through congested commercial and social streets.
