DECAA is appealing the dismissal by the DC Superior Court and the decision of the Mayor\u2019s Agent for Historic Preservation. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;background-image:initial;background-position:initial;background-size:initial;background-repeat:initial;background-origin:initial;background-clip:initial;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;background-image:initial;background-position:initial;background-size:initial;background-repeat:initial;background-origin:initial;background-clip:initial;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">Neighbors in\u00a0the historic, diverse community of East Dupont\u00a0oppose the proposed five-and-half story luxury apartment building as oversized and inappropriate in an historic district.\u00a0 Among other objections, it would forever block public views of the rear of the world-renowned Temple, an early design by John Russell Pope,\u00a0the architect\u00a0who spurred the emblematic neo-classical style of Washington DC\u2019s federal buildings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;background-image:initial;background-position:initial;background-size:initial;background-repeat:initial;background-origin:initial;background-clip:initial;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:15.6933px;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;line-height:19.9733px;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">In one appeal, Case No. 20-CV-315, DECAA challenges the DC Superior Court\u2019s dismissal of March 2, 2020, arguing that the trial court erred in concluding that it lacked subject matter jurisdiction, that DECAA had not exhausted its administrative remedies, and that the Mayor\u2019s Agent for Historic Preservation has jurisdiction<\/span><span style=\"font-size:14pt;line-height:19.9733px;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">\u00a0over its constitutional claims, including, among other things, due process and equal protection of the laws.\u00a0\u00a0In the other consolidated appeal, Case No. 20-AA-0693, DECAA challenges the Mayor\u2019s Agent\u2019s approval of the subdivision of the historic landmark.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;background-image:initial;background-position:initial;background-size:initial;background-repeat:initial;background-origin:initial;background-clip:initial;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">\u201cDifficult, complex cases such as<\/span><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">\u00a0these can sometimes be\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">dismissed because of lack of good legal representation. Dedicated to community engagement and civic action, it now pursues campaigns to house the homeless, affordable housing, the preservation of green space, pedestrian safety and leads the city-wide Coalition against DC Bike Plans.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"
