Council is on the precipice of\u00a0greenlighting the largest land giveaway  in city history: 80 acres at the RFK campus \u2014 20 acres for a  billionaire&#39;s luxury football stadium, and 60 more acres to Josh Harris for high-end condos,  hotels, and commercial development. All this land gifted for a few dollars a year  for up to 99 years.<\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"4\"><br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dcfeedback.com\/fit2print\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/RFKGiveawayAwayAway__medlite2_med.gif\" alt=\"RFKGiveawayAwayAway__medlite2_med.gif\" style=\"margin-right: 25px;\"><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex\" class=\"gmail_quote\"><p><i><font size=\"4\"><span>\u201cThe land rent break is so egregious in magnitude,\u201d <\/span><\/font><\/i><font size=\"4\"><span>economist Geoffrey Propheter wrote <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/substack.com\/redirect\/04e8788c-96d7-4de4-926f-fb6f96568e2a?j=eyJ1IjoicmUzbyJ9.-xuqTGYgbXORuy4WjWahV7-JSdkjuejLZgowa9Mm2iY\" rel=\"\" style=\"color:rgb(107,38,255);text-decoration:none\" target=\"_blank\">on social media<\/a><span>, <\/span><\/font><i><font size=\"4\"><span> \u201cthat if I didn&#39;t know it was proposed by a mayor for a stadium, I  would have assumed the sublessee had incriminating evidence on the  lessor and was using it for a shakedown.\u201d<\/span><\/font><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote style=\"margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex\" class=\"gmail_quote\"><p><i><font size=\"4\"><span>It\u2019s \u201cthe biggest public sports subsidy in U.S. history by a mile,\u201d <\/span><\/font><\/i><font size=\"4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/substack.com\/redirect\/6b1bea4d-e9c2-43de-9a34-53040b36e731?j=eyJ1IjoicmUzbyJ9.-xuqTGYgbXORuy4WjWahV7-JSdkjuejLZgowa9Mm2iY\" rel=\"\" style=\"color:rgb(107,38,255);text-decoration:none\" target=\"_blank\">according <\/a><span>to  Neil deMause, a journalist who tracks stadium deals across the country  for Field of Schemes. deMause puts D.C.\u2019s total subsidy at over $6.5  billion.<\/span><\/font><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div><font size=\"4\"><br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"4\">This level of corporate\u00a0welfare is being excused in part by Council Chairman, Phil Mendelson, who points to the affordable housing Josh Harris promises to build including for households making 60% of the area median income or about $100,000 a year in annual income (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.huduser.gov\/portal\/datasets\/il\/il2025\/2025summary.odn?STATES=11.0&amp;INPUTNAME=METRO47900M47900*1100199999%2BDistrict+of+Columbia&amp;statelist=&amp;stname=District+of+Columbia&amp;wherefrom=&amp;statefp=11&amp;year=2025&amp;ne_flag=&amp;selection_type=county&amp;incpath=&amp;data=2025&amp;SubmitButton=View+County+Calculations\">The Area Median Income, which has rapidly increased annually for the past decade, is now at $163,900 for a family of four<\/a>).\u00a0\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"4\"><br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"6\"><b>SOCIAL HOUSING TO MAKE RFK DEAL BETTER<\/b><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"4\">Local housing advocates have said the status quo AMI housing as proposed in the RFK deal is not affordable and <a href=\"https:\/\/savedcpublicland.org\/the1617project\/2025\/06\/05\/fwd-rfk-press-public-update-social-housing-stadium-tweak-could-provide-critical-revenue-to-avoid-devastating-dc-budget-cuts\/\">have pointed to including social housing as a way to make this RFK much much better<\/a>:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/font><span style=\"font-size:18pt\">&#8220;Integrating social housing at RFK could <b>transform a lopsided stadium deal into an engine of equity and economic resilience<\/b>\u2014helping to cover infrastructure and debt costs <i>without pushing the burden onto working families<\/i>.&#8221;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"4\"><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"4\">As the retiring Washington Post columnist <b><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/OSHig\" target=\"_blank\">Colbert I.
