a development<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\"> that would destroy the low-rise historic stretch of 15 Street, was once again before a committee of Dupont ANC2B on Wednesday, April 7.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">Dupont<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\"> East<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\"> Civic Action Association (<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">DECAA<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">) has appealed the DC Zoning Administrator\u2019s approval of the &#39;lot subdivision,&#39; necessary for the project to proceed, and which the Administrator did by simply signing, with typos, the draft submitted by the Mason&#39;s\u00a0developer,\u00a0Perseus. <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\"><span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">In contrast to DECCA, which made a\u00a0succinct, full explanation of its appeal, both the Masons and the developer,\u00a0Perseus<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\"> declined to make any presentation. However,\u00a0Christine Roddy, a Perseus<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\"> representative,<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\"> <span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">declared, in effect, that it is ok for the city to violate its regulations at the request of the developer. \u201cThe simple fact is,&#8221; she said, &#8220;the neighbors do not want it. They are throwing everything against the wall to see what sticks,&#8221; concluding that the city needs housing \u2013 an issue not before the\u00a0ANC and the BZA<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">.<span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">Mo\u00a0Pasternak, the\u00a0ANC\u00a0Commissioner representing the residents around the Temple, was quick to pledge his support of the developer. &#8220;I ran on a platform of more housing. This is a weird zoning thing and I support whatever zoning we need to build more housing.&#8221;\u00a0 In a response published later in the neighborhood listserv, HearUsNow, longtime resident Diane Quinn said, \u201cDo we need more high-end housing?\u00a0 All the &#8220;for rent&#8221; signs show apartment buildings are 40% unoccupied, as people move out of Dupont.\u00a0 Make no mistake, we need more housing, but it is needed for those earning less than $50,000 a year,\u201d she\u00a0emphasized.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\"><span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">DECAA president Nick\u00a0DelleDonne<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">added,<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">\u201cCitizen challenges like ours are defending the Dupont Circle community, but, from Roddy\u2019s viewpoint, we are holding up Perseus&#39; profits. It is developers who come from outside DC and leave devastation in their wake, in the form of huge increases in land values, rampant displacement of residents and no affordable housing,\u201d said DelleDonne.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\"><span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">\u00a0<\/span><span
