{"id":649,"date":"2021-05-07T19:39:21","date_gmt":"2021-05-07T19:39:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dcfeedback.com\/fit2print\/?p=649"},"modified":"2021-06-01T22:06:41","modified_gmt":"2021-06-01T22:06:41","slug":"dccompplan-update-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.dcfeedback.com\/fit2print\/dc\/649","title":{"rendered":"#DCCOMPPLAN: Update &amp; Action"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div><font size=\"4\">DC Grassroots Planning Coalition (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcgrassrootsplanning.org\">DCGPC<\/a>) emphasizes needed changes to the #DCCOMPPLAN before any final vote is taken.<\/p>\n<p><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font size=\"4\">The DCGPC is asking supporters to write and call the City Council to support these last key planning issues to stop the further racial inequity in growth and the displacement of more Black and Brown families from the city.<\/font><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>See below the call:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net\/empowerdc\/mailings\/120\/attachments\/original\/comp_plan_update.png?1620389772\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\">\n<p><font size=\"6\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0,0,0)\"><b>Comprehensive Plan Update:<br \/>\nWhere we Stand<\/b><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:rgb(0,0,0)\">The DC Grassroots Planning Coalition<br \/>\nis urging action between now and the final vote on the Comp Plan &#8211;<br \/>\nwhich may be as soon as May 18.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:rgb(0,0,0)\">The Council must make changes to<br \/>\nensure the document paves the way for racially equitable,<br \/>\ncommunity-led development that supports DC\u2019s lowest income, Black and<br \/>\nbrown residents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:rgb(0,0,0)\">While there have been many<br \/>\nimprovements made over the Mayor&#39;s original proposal would, the Plan<br \/>\nstill would <i>&#8220;exacerbate racial inequities&#8221;\u00a0<\/i>according to the<br \/>\nCouncil Office on Racial Equity Racial Equity Assessment. The Plan<br \/>\nfalls short on measures that will alter the power, processes, and<br \/>\npolicies necessary to advance racial equity in a meaningful<br \/>\nway.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"6\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0,0,0)\"><b><u>CHANGES NEEDED BEFORE<br \/>\nFINAL PASSAGE: <\/u><\/b><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\">\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color:rgb(0,0,0)\"><b>Redefine<\/b><br \/>\naffordable housing in terms of DC&#39;s median income (not the whole DMV),<br \/>\nand set production goals &#8211; both in <b>family size units<\/b><br \/>\nand <b>deep affordability levels<\/b> &#8211; to meet the needs of<br \/>\nDC&#39;s Black families (30-40% AMI). Require <b>all<\/b> new<br \/>\nhousing built on public land be affordable. <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:rgb(0,0,0)\"><b>Reject the Mayor&#39;s upFLUMing &amp; Create a<br \/>\nCommunity-Led Equitable Development<\/b>, by capturing additional tax<br \/>\nrevenue from newly developed areas, and invest in strategies to<br \/>\n<b>build resident&#39;s capacity<\/b>, especially in public and<br \/>\nlow-income housing redevelopments, to have an <b>equity<br \/>\npartner<\/b> stake in development through land and business<br \/>\nownership.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/li>\n<li>\n<span style=\"color:rgb(0,0,0)\"><b>Require<\/b> binding<br \/>\nand enforceable development and community benefit agreements to hold<br \/>\ndevelopers\/city <b>accountable<\/b> and <b>protect<br \/>\nresidents&#39; rights<\/b>, even when projects don&#39;t require a PUD,<br \/>\nespecially when public land or subsidy are involved or when low-income<br \/>\nresidents may be displaced. This is critical for communities like<br \/>\nBarry Farm and Park Morton.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><font size=\"4\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0,0,0)\"><b>CALL THE COUNCIL! Please call<br \/>\nChairman Mendelson, the At-Large Councilmembers (Elissa Silverman,<br \/>\nAnita Bonds, Robert White and Christina Henderson) and your Ward<br \/>\nCouncilmember using the Council Switchboard &#8211; (202) 724-8000 and ask<br \/>\nthem to support these priorities before final<br \/>\npassage.<\/b><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/><i><span style=\"color:rgb(0,0,0)\"><b><u>SAMPLE PHONE<br \/>\nMESSAGE:<\/u><\/b><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:rgb(0,0,0)\">\u201cI am deeply concerned about the<br \/>\ncontinued displacement of Black and brown residents from the city, and<br \/>\nit is clear that the Comprehensive Plan does not go far enough to<br \/>\naddress racial equity. Please support the recommendations of the DC<br \/>\nGrassroots Planning Coalition to strengthen the Comp Plan before final<br \/>\npassage \u2013 particularly: prioritize the development of housing<br \/>\naffordable to low income people, mandate the prevention of<br \/>\ndisplacement, and create new opportunities for resident led equitable<br \/>\ndevelopment, especially in public housing.
