Friday, July 2, Ward 2 Councilmember Brooke Pinto\u00a0refused<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to provide a public presentation for the benefit of her constituents in Ward 2 regarding DDOT\u2019s confusing 17\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>th<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0St. Bike Plan.\u00a0But,<\/span>\u00a0oddly, she said Ward 6 constituents concerned about the 9<\/span><\/span>th<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0St. Bike Plan, will get several.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/p>\n

After weeks of delay, the Councilmember who campaigned on a platform of caring and listening,\u00a0<\/span>Pinto declined to attend<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0the meeting July 1 with representatives of a coalition of neighborhoods seeking community engagement over imminent construction of bike plans\u00a0<\/span>across the city<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>that threaten the safety of pedestrians in Dupont Circle, Shaw, Glover Park and\u00a0<\/span>Burleith<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/p>\n

\u201cMost of the residents of Dupont Circle do not know of DDOT\u2019s 17<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0St. Bike Plan and those who know of it are confused,\u201d said Nick\u00a0<\/span>DelleDonne<\/span>, president of the Dupont East Civic Action Association (DECAA). \u201cEveryone you ask tells you something different.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/p>\n

\u201cThis city owes us the customary and required presentations and all the studies that DDOT normally provides for our own safety and for the sake of community engagement,\u201d said\u00a0DelleDonne<\/span>. \u201cIn a brazen display of indifference, Pinto washes her hands of her obligation.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not just residents, 19 merchants on 17\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>th<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0St., concerned about deliveries,\u00a0streateries<\/span>\u00a0and parking for patrons, have made written requests for a public presentation,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>DelleDonne<\/span>\u00a0said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/p>\n

Pinto supports a plan that discriminates against the elderly and the disabled. The Plan will have not one handicapped parking space anywhere on 17th St. from Massachusetts to New Hampshire Avenue, but Pinto refuses to help. Two new\u00a0PickUp<\/span>\/<\/span>DropOff<\/span>\u00a0Zones are too small to meet the ADA requirements, but Pinto doesn\u2019t seem to care<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Attending the meeting was Alexander Padro, Executive Director of Shaw Main Streets who expressed concerns about the proposed 9<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0St Plan. On that point Pinot assures Ward 6 constituents that: <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDDOT is working to schedule a virtual open house\/community meeting that will have a telephone call-in number for individuals who are not comfortable accessing Zoom technology. DDOT will do outreach to neighbors (flyers, etc.) so that neighbors are made aware of the phone option.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe never got the same consideration from DDOT and now we are not getting it from our elected Ward 2 Councilmember, Brooke Pinto,\u201d said\u00a0DelleDonne<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n
