Following a ribbon cutting for senior apartments in NE on July 7, Nick DelleDonne, president of Dupont East Civic Action Association (DECAA) told Mayor Bowser that Safeway had joined DECAA\u2019s call for a public presentation, becoming the 20<sup>th<\/sup> merchant on the block, including TrueValue and CVS, to do so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\">With Alex Pardo, Executive Director of Shaw Main Streets, DECAA is organizing a city-wide coalition to fight DDOT\u2019s stonewalling. \u201cIn 20 years of civic life, I have never seen such intransigence from the administration,\u201d said Padro, calling for a city-wide coalition<\/span><span class=\"gmail-normaltextrun\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black;background-image:initial;background-position:initial;background-size:initial;background-repeat:initial;background-origin:initial;background-clip:initial\"> of neighborhoods from Shaw to\u00a0Burleith\u00a0to fight DDOT\u2019s intransigence. Bike lanes encourage speeding and endanger pedestrians. Merchants need parking. The city needs compliance with ADA. \u201cOur village is unique,\u201d said DelleDonne.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"eop\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black;background-image:initial;background-position:initial;background-size:initial;background-repeat:initial;background-origin:initial;background-clip:initial\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:black\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:107%;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;line-height:107%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif\">This weekend, Councilmember Mary Cheh said a public presentation is \u201c<b>customary and required<\/b>.\u201d In June, DC Council Chair Phil Mendelson said,<b> \u201cIf DDOT wants to go forward they absolutely have got to discuss what their plan is before they do it and work out the issues before they do it<\/b>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif\">In Shaw, Alex Padro and Allan Ebert of 9<sup>th<\/sup> Street Association hosted a DDOT presentation for merchants on 9<sup>th<\/sup> Street, Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif\">Here is our letter to the Mayor today:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif\">Dear Mayor Bowser,<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif\">Thank you for stopping yesterday at the Todd A Lee ribbon cutting to hear our complaint about DDOT&#39;s refusal to publicly present its plan for bike lanes on the congested section of 17th St., NW, between P St. and Riggs Place, in East Dupont Circle.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif\">Confusion over the plan is widespread for both residents and businesses.\u00a0 How will the safety be assured of seniors with walkers, toddlers on a rope on their way to daycare and the disabled? Among the businesses, 20\u00a0 merchants, including Safeway, TrueValue and CVS, have formally joined our request for a public presentation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif\">We are certainly not against bike riders and increasing the use of bike. For East Dupont, this includes exploring alternative routes, bike routes on 14th, 15th and 20th Streets already exist &#8212; but DDOT will not listen.
