Why Won\u2019t CM Pinto Give Community a Public Presentation?<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in;line-height:107%;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><b><span style=\"font-size:14pt;line-height:107%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:107%\"><span style=\"line-height:107%;color:rgb(51,51,51)\"><font size=\"4\" face=\"arial, sans-serif\">In a TV news report on the Heated Debate on Bike Lanes on July 13, NBC NEWS4 reporter Mark Segraves quoted Director Everett Lott of the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) as saying \u201cThe 17th Street protected bike lane project is <b>a critical connector for cyclists who are riding through<\/b> the downtown core.\u201d <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:107%\"><font size=\"4\" face=\"arial, sans-serif\"><b><span style=\"line-height:107%;color:rgb(51,51,51)\">\u201cIt is reckless and dangerous to draw speeding bike traffic through the congested, commercial and social nerve center<\/span><\/b><span style=\"line-height:107%;color:rgb(51,51,51)\"> of the community between P St. and Riggs Pl, NW,\u201d said Nick DelleDonne, president of the Dupont East Civic Action Association (DECAA). <\/span><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:107%\"><span style=\"line-height:107%;color:rgb(51,51,51)\"><font size=\"4\" face=\"arial, sans-serif\">\u201cEvery street in the city cannot be a bike speedway for through traffic,\u201d said DelleDonne, who is asking the city to provide the community a public presentation of the confusing traffic changes DDOT is installing on 17<sup>th<\/sup> St., NW. Protected bike lanes are already available on 14th, 15th and 20th Streets, particularly through a congested two-block commercial stretch. <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:107%\"><span class=\"gmail-normaltextrun\"><font size=\"4\" face=\"arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"line-height:107%;color:black;background-image:initial;background-position:initial;background-size:initial;background-repeat:initial;background-origin:initial;background-clip:initial\">Twenty<\/span><span style=\"font-variant-ligatures:none\">\u00a0merchants<\/span><span style=\"font-variant-ligatures:none\">, including Safeway, TrueValue<\/span><span style=\"font-variant-ligatures:none\">\u00a0and CVS\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-variant-ligatures:none\">have\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-variant-ligatures:none\">joined DECAA in request<\/span><span style=\"font-variant-ligatures:none\">ing\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-variant-ligatures:none\">a public presentation. DECAA and Shaw Main Streets are organizing a\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-variant-ligatures:none\">city-wid<\/span><span style=\"font-variant-ligatures:none\">e<\/span><span style=\"font-variant-ligatures:none\">\u00a0coalition on DDOT Bike Plans, noting the widespread dissatisfaction with DDOT Bike Plans.\u00a0<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:107%\"><span class=\"gmail-normaltextrun\"><span style=\"line-height:107%;color:black;background-image:initial;background-position:initial;background-size:initial;background-repeat:initial;background-origin:initial;background-clip:initial\"><font size=\"4\" face=\"arial, sans-serif\">Last week on WJLA News7 with reporter Sam Ford, Lott appeared to say the project is a year away, there is plenty of time. This week, the 17<sup>th<\/sup> St Bike Plan was installed amid widespread confusion. \u201cPeople will be hurt. Business will Fail.
