Purdy, J. (2009). The politics of nature: climate change, environmental law, and democracy. Yale LJ, 119, 1122.
This article provides a theoretical explanation and a brief history of how we as a society have come to value the natural world within our current political structures. While it does not discuss housing issues directly, it reviews “a utilitarian ideal of rational management of resources”. It discusses the role of the Sierra Club in shaping national policy, and explains how the group’s elitism prevented it from adopting the most progressive policies.
