Ward One Community Rallies with Heart, Seeking a Full & Fair Trial About the Adams Morgan Plaza

What:

Press Briefing About the Adams Morgan Plaza and Legal Update, Plus Family Event at the Plaza

When:

  • Press Briefing Saturday, February 13, 2021 12:00-12:20 p.m.
  • The Hearts On The Plaza Family Gathering, Saturday, Feb 13. between 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Where:

Adams Morgan Plaza (formerly known as Suntrust Plaza) on the Southwest corner of 18th Street NW and Columbia Rd. NW in Washington DC.

* Due to COVID-19, all activities will be safely socially distanced. And we request that all participating wear a mask or face covering.

Why:

To announce the status of litigation by Adams Morgan for Reasonable Development (AM4RD) and Kalorama Citizens Association (KCA). Hear from AM4RD members who have decided to file an appeal to reverse the stunning January 2021 DC Superior Court decision that overturned the injunction protecting the public use easement at the Adams Morgan Plaza on the southwest corner of 18th Street NW and Columbia Road.

And, we are hosting a family friendly event: Hearts On The Plaza – Adams Morgan residents, especially families with young children, are invited to create hearts for the plaza with chalk – or with snow if the weather provides – and enjoy smore’s as we celebrate the latest in our years long community campaign to preserve the victory over racist redlining that led to reparations in part in the form of public use of the Plaza in perpetuity.

“Our neighbors have been using this open-air space since the 1970’s and we want the right to continue using it,” said Jessica Neagle, Adams Morgan resident and plaza supporter. “Recently a judge arbitrarily overturned our legal victory stopping the demolition of the plaza, a direct affront to the legacy of Ward 1 residents and their hard fought campaign that confronted systemic racism and won this public easement in the heart of Adams Morgan. We deserve a transparent trial on the merits, not a capricious legal blowoff in service to a massive international bank thats acting in bad faith with our community.”
